I found out….yesterday…. that I had my own classroom! Yay! The only downside is that there was nothing in it. Literally. Other than desks. not even a computer chair.
WOE! So, I went running around the school asking if anyone had bookshelves or cabinets that I could steal. I found 2 of these nasty ones that were rusted and about to be thrown out. They didn’t even match! One was blue and the other was a greenish brown. I knew I had to do something, so I went to walmart, picked out some paint, and went to town!!!
Are they perfect? NO. Especially if you look at the seams of where the black and the purple meet. But, I am very proud of them! They already have a bunch of items in them as well. Yay!!!
I had my class of 8th graders today for 20 minutes, and was scrambling to find an activity that I could do in that time after going over the syllabus. I remembered what I had seen on Pinterest that a teacher had done (Click here)
Basically, she posed four questions to her students and asked them to write an answer on a post-it note and put it with each question, creating a bright beautiful display of awesomeness.
I love it. Didn’t even change a thing (except for the name). I literally think it’s a perfect first day activity. I hope my 9th graders like it as much tomorrow. I plan on just leaving all of the post its together, since I have some really small classes this year.
The best part is the answers that the kids put! They were very honest- they want me to slow down with activities and make sure they understand, give them enough time for homework, and be after school for extra help often. Hey! I can do that!
They were overjoyed at the idea of the flipped classroom. I can’t wait to go over it with them tomorrow. I decided to use coursesites- I think it’s organized well and very user friendly. Tomorrow, I’ll go over logging in and how to access the content and everything. YAY SCHOOL I’M SO EXCITED!!!
(also, I’m exhausted. I’m literally minutes away from a nap)
